Investigation heads in 'a positive direction,' police say, after explosive device found in the bushes Monday outside Pleasant Hill Elementary School.

Pleasant Hill police are pursuing potential leads in the second day of an investigation of an explosive device found in the bushes outside Pleasant Hill Elementary School.

"The investigation continues in a positive direction," said Sgt. Dave Downs in the investigations unit of Pleasant Hill PD on Tuesday. "It's the opinion of the experts that it was a viable explosive device." He said it appeared to be homemade.

Police "checked the surrounding area for additional devices," Downs said. "None were found." The school is on Oak Park Boulevard.
