John F. Kennedy University is pleased to host a book discussion and signing with author Dina Colman at the Pleasant Hill campus on Thursday, October 24 from 5 – 7 pm at 100 Ellinwood Way. Dina, a graduate of JFK University’s Health Education program and a resident of Danville, will be discussing her new book, “Four Quadrant Living Making Healthy Living Your New Way of Life.”
The book got its start as Colman’s integrative project for her MA in health education at the University. Colman had the idea to use her project as the nucleus of a book she planned to write. This was an unusual request, but the professors worked with her so that her project would be both meaningful and useful.
After her sister was diagnosed with cancer, Dina was told that she had an 87% chance of getting the disease herself. This motivated Dina to leave her corporate job and go back to school, earning a master’s degree in health education from JFK University. There, she learned how to reduce her risk of getting cancer by changing the way she lived her life. Fifteen years later, Dina continues to beat the odds and her sister is cancer-free.

Dina says, "Every day we make choices that impact our health—the foods we eat, the products we use, the exercise we get, the stress we allow, the people we surround ourselves with, and the environment we live in." In her book, Dina provides practical suggestions for nourishing the "four quadrants" of life (Mind, Body, Relationships, and Environment), including ways to reduce stress, eat well, live mindfully, exercise more, sleep better, foster supportive relationships, and create healthy environments.
Dick Bolles, author of the bestseller"What Color is Your Parachute?,”wrote the book’s foreword. He says, "This is not just a book about how to improve your health. I wouldn’t trust it, if it was. This is a book about how to do Life. Those two—health and life—are inseparable. Anyone who writes about health, and doesn’t realize that, still has a lot to learn."
