Newest Farmers Market Makes Its Debut This Morning

The Contra Costa Centre Transit Village hosts a market each Wednesday at 11 a.m. starting today.

Looking for something fresh and locally grown on a Wednesday morning, that’s close to home?

You’re in luck. There is a new farmers market right on the border of Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill opening this morning at 11 a.m. The Contra Costa Centre Transit Village debuts its weekly Farmers’ Market today at 11:00 a.m. It will be held at the AvalonBay Town Square, 1001 Harvey Lane, Walnut Creek, immediately to the east of the Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre BART Station.

The market will be open each Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except holidays), and will feature fruit, vegetables and flowers from local and regional growers. Food vendors will be on hand with a variety of prepared foods as well.

The market will be managed by longtime Pleasant Hill resident and experienced market manager Karen Stiles. She said that the Market was created to serve the area, which includes residents, employees and BART riders.

"It is open to the public" Stiles said, "and we hope everyone who is interested will stop by to see us."

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Transit Village Farmers’ Market will be held at 11 a.m. today. District IV Supervisor, Karen Mitchoff, and District #1 BART Director Gail Murray will be present, along with other elected officials. The first 250 people who attend will be given cloth marketing bags or specially designed t-shirts, and one lucky attendee can win the raffle and be awarded a beach cruiser bicycle.
