American Farmland Trust is sponsoring a national, summer-long competition in which people can vote for their favorite farmers mart. Winning markets will be featured in the media and honored at local celebrations. One local farmer will win a $1,000 "inspiration" award for dedication to his or her local market.
The trust is promoting the role farmers markets play in keeping family farmers on the land. The contest runs through Sept. 3.
