Pleasant Hill Stabbing Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

65-year-old Robert Fromm pleaded not guilty to the charge that he stabbed a 16-year-old girl last month.

by Bay City News

A man accused of stabbing a 16-year-old girl in Pleasant Hill last month pleaded not guilty to an attempted murder charge in Contra Costa County Superior Court this morning.

Pleasant Hill resident Robert Fromm, 65, entered the plea through an attorney in a Martinez courtroom this morning in connection with the attack, which left the victim hospitalized with multiple stab wounds.

Police responded to Fromm's home in the 1900 block of Patricia Drive at about 9 a.m. on June 27 after receiving a report of a teenage girl suffering from stab wounds at a local hospital.

Officers determined that Fromm had allegedly stabbed the girl -- a relative who also lived at the home -- in the chest and hands before stabbing himself multiple times, police said.

Pleasant Hill police Lt. Dan Connelly declined to say how Fromm and the girl are related, since the victim is a juvenile.

She has since recovered from her injuries, he said.

Police said Fromm apparently tried to kill himself after stabbing the girl. He was rushed a hospital before being booked into county jail, where he remains in custody.

Fromm appeared in court today in a wheelchair. He is set to return to court for a preliminary hearing next Friday.
