Armed Robbery in Downtown Walnut Creek Jewelry Store

Employees were pepper sprayed and the thieves made off with expensive watches.

Two men walked into Davidson and Licht Jewelers on Broadway Plaza Tuesday afternoon and, after pepper-spraying employees, made off with several expensive watches.

According to police, two African American men in their 20s, both with thin builds, walked into the store about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday. They were dressed in hoodies and wearing gloves. One man had a sledgehammer, the other pepper spray. According to witnesses, one man pepper-sprayed the employees while the other broke a display case with the sledgehammer and grabbed several Rolex watches. They left the store and got into a newer model black Infiniti SUV FX35 with a silver roof rack and silver alloy rims, driven by a third suspect, police reported. They were gone before police could respond.

There was one customer in the store at the time. No one was injured in the robbery.

Police are asking anyone with any information to call the Walnut Creek police at (925) 943-5844.

Don't they usually have security cameras outside? They were FAST. Cops were there in 2 minutes? I've met the owner 2 times, briefly, he seems like a nice man. I read were he tried to block one thief from leaving, glad he wasn't harmed. Sounds like they had the place staked out. I think there have been semi similar robberies in cities like Lafayette, which had a quick takeover robbery a few years back with a perp with similar description. They added an armed guard. I think with all of the bars, nightlife, and fancy shops, Walnut Creek is no longer a hidden gem. Add to this the multipe rapes and rape attempts at that large apartment complex near Pleasant Hill BART a year ago, the takeover home robbery, etc. the tide seems to have turned.

I once knew a lady who still works there. She turned out to be real sleezy, and had friends of questionable morals, in spite of her appearance and manners. I wonder if it was an inside job?

Julia: "According to police, two African American men in their 20s, both with thin builds, walked into the store about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday..." Wow! Before you blast off, READ the article. What is not clear about "two African Americans?"
