Police Chase: Driver Heads One Way, Passenger the Other

Passenger took off on foot and driver drove off on Highway 4 and was stopped in Pittsburg, Pleasant Hill police report.

Two men in a vehicle were arrested after attempting to evade police in Pleasant Hill on Thursday night.

The vehicle pursuit started in Pleasant Hill near the corner of Old Quarry and Golf Club roads at about 6:45 p.m., police said. When police tried to stop the car the passenger jumped out and attempted to flee while holding a knife and other equipment, police said.

The passenger was quickly detained. The driver of the car sped off onto state Highway 4, headed east. The California Highway Patrol joined Pleasant Hill police in the pursuit.

The chase ended on Bailey Road, off of state Highway 4, outside of Pittsburg.

The driver was identified as Richard Moreno, 38, a transient from Contra Costa County. He was arrested on suspicion of felony evasion. The passenger was identified as Jacob Anastas, 37, of Antioch, and arrested on suspicion of possessing burglary tools and narcotic paraphernalia.
