Councilmember Terri Williamson has formally submitted her resignation to the City Council, according to Pleasant Hill Officials.
Williamson announced her resignation in May because she is moving to Grass Valley. But the long-time councilmember and former mayor did not submit her official resignation until today.
That caused a delay in the council's decision on when and how to fill her seat until this November's election. The council could choose to appoint a councilmember, hold a sepcial election, or wait until November.
But Mayor John Hanecak told the Contra Costa Times that important issues are facing the council between now and November, including the passage of a two-year budget. An appointment would give the appointee an advantage in November's election, but a special election to fill the vacant seat for a short time would be expensive.
The City Council will be discussing steps to take regarding her open seat at its next meeting on Monday, June 18, 2012, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
