Mayor Teaches About His Education Initiative

Michael Harris forms steering committee to oversee Pleasant Hill initiative to improve education.

Mayor Michael Harris has an initiative to organize a communitywide volunteer effort to benefit the quality of education in Pleasant Hill.

Harris announced his education initiative at his 'State of the City' Address Feb. 7.

Some potential programs mentioned for the initiative, according to a city press release:

  • mentoring and tutoring students
  • volunteering in schools
  • career counseling and job shadowing
  • community teaching labs
  • afterschool enrichment.

Harris wants to form a steering committee for the initiative with representatives from city commissions, the Recreation & Park District, Mount Diablo Unified School District, Pleasant Hill Library, Foundation for Pleasant Hill Education, Chamber of Commerce, construction trades and the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation.
