MDUSD is on State Watchlist

California's school boss said Monday that MDUSD is in financial trouble.

is one of 188 school districts in the state that is in danger of not meeting its financial obligations over the next two years, according to figures released Monday by the California Department of Education.

The Great Recession and its aftermath have been brutal for MDUSD, which has been forced to cut $40 million over the past five years. MDUSD is not alone. There are a record number of school districts in bad financial shape, according to Tom Torlakson, the state schools chief.
