Pleasant Hill Springs Into Summer With Outdoor Events

Celebrate the warm days and long nights of spring and summer with music, markets and festivals in Pleasant Hill. Here are the coming events and things to do in the sunshine.

The sunshine is here to stay and Pleasant Hill is celebrating with a season of festivals, markets, music and more in the coming months.

It all starts this weekend, May 4, with the return of the seasonal farmers' market, followed by the first citywide garage sale the following weekend and then the start of the summer concerts by the lake on May 26. A list of all the upcoming events can be found below and on the city website, Pleasant-hill.net/festivals.

Spring and Summer Events in Pleasant Hill

Farmers' Market (Saturday, May 4 - Nov. 16)
The Farmers' Market has its Grand Opening on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Located in the Downtown Plaza (next to Jack's Restaurant), the weekly market runs through Nov. 16 this year and features fresh produce, baked goods, cooking demonstrations, and live music. First Annual Citywide Garage Sale (May 18-19)
"Don't Trash It - Sell It!" That's the tagline of the first Citywide Garage Sale which takes place on the weekend of May 18-19. Organized by Allied Waste Services and the Civic Action Commission, this event gives residents the opportunity to hold their garage sales on the same weekend and get free promotion from the City and Allied Waste. Residents can register their sale at PleasantHillGarageSale.com. The organizers will publicize the streets (but not house numbers) which are hosting a sale that weekend. Sunset by the Lake Summer Concerts (May 26 - Sept. 1)
The Civic Action Commission hosts the 16th Annual Summer Concert Series on the lawn at City Hall beginning Sunday, May 26th. The lineup this year includes local favorites Cover 2 Cover, East Bay MUDD, Zoo Station (U2 cover band), Dave Martin's House Party and Tender Mercies featuring musicians from the Counting Crows. Downtown Plaza Concert Series (Thursday, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19)
This year, Downtown Pleasant Hill is hosting four concerts on the third Thursday of June, July, August and September in the Plaza area between Sweet Tomatoes and Jack's Restaurant. Each concert is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The series features four of the most popular bands in the Bay Area with Cover 2 Cover on June 20th, Fast Times on July 18th, Dave Martin's House Party on August 15th and The Fundamentals on September 19th. The Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce will also host a Wine Stroll during each concert. For more details check out ShopDowntownPleasantHill.com.

Family Camp Out (June 29)
Pleasant Hill Park becomes Camp Pleasant Hill. Enjoy your staycation with time out doors as you introduce your kids to camping. Includes activities, crafts, campfire with s’mores, music, and an outdoor movie. Snacks, dinner, breakfast available for purchase from the Teen Center Snack Shack. Bring: tent, sleeping bags, chairs, flashlights, snacks, change of clothes, and personal items. NO Pets. Friday Night Family Swim (June 21, July 19 and Aug. 23)
6–9 p.m at Pleasant Hill Aquatic Park. More information is available on the Pleasant Hill Rec website.

Fourth of July Celebration
This year's theme is "We the People - An American Melting Pot" with Grand Marshall, former City Manager, Jim Alkire.

Moonlight Movie (July 12 and Aug. 9)
Watch a movie on the City Hall Lawn. Bring a blanket, towel, or chair on July 12 and Aug 9, 8:30–10:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill city Hall: 100 Gregory ln.

Garage Bands At The lake (July 19 and Aug. 16)
Check out some young, local bands at City Hall: showtime is 7 p.m. If you have a teen band interested in performing, call (925) 682-0896.

Blues & Brews Festival (Saturday, July 27)
A day of live music and beer tasting, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Park. For more details visit BluesandBrewsFestival.com.

American Iron Car Show (Aug. 11)
The 12th annual show takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring pre-80s American cars.
