Contra Costa Humane Society Needs Pet Food Donations

Increased demand and damaged supplies have created a critical shortage

Contra Costa Humane Society officials are asking the public for donations of dry pet food.

The non-profit organization usually has a five-month supply of dry dog and cat food, but their warehouse stock has dwindled to less than two months.

Society officials say the "critical shortage" has occurred because of an increase in clientele the past three months. In addition, some of their warehouse supplies have been damaged by mice and other problems.

Donors can drop off dry food for the AniMeals pet food supplemental program at the Humane Society offices at 171 Mayhew Way, Suite 101, in Pleasant Hill.

Food can also be purchased and then donated at any Pet Food Express location in Contra Costa County.

The Humane Society's AniMeals program serves 450 low-income families in Contra Costa County.
