'Save the Dome' to Hold Memorial Meeting at City Hall

Community members and "dome" supporters are invited to mourn the loss of the theater and speak out at the June 3 Pleasant Hill City Council meeting.

The Save the Pleasant Hill Dome group is planning to gather outside at City Hall June 3 in remembrance of the 46-year-old theater that was demolished earlier this month.

A "Remember the Pleasant Hill Dome" get together will take place at 7 p.m. outside the City Hall building at 100 Gregory Lane. Community members are being encouraged to also stay for the 7:30 p.m. city council meeting.

"We can’t bring back the Dome, but on Monday June 3, the date of the next City Hall council meeting, we can gather in that spirit of community that our love and appreciation for the Dome inspired," states a message on SaveTheDome.org. "We can gather to briefly remember the Dome and then we can return to City Hall chambers, to let these leaders know that the Dome will not be forgotten and this spirit of community will not be crushed. We can let these leaders know that we will continue to hold them accountable for the decisions they made that led to the Dome’s destruction – decisions that could further harm the community’s safety and quality of life. We also can share our hopes for a better future for the city and the region."

The Save the Pleasant Hill Dome group adds that the June 3 meeting is an opportunity for the community to share "concerns, disappointment and anger about the Dome’s destruction" — as well as "hope and determination for Pleasant Hill to do better in the future."

How do you think the City of Pleasant Hill can "do better in the future" regarding local landmarks and cultural icons? Share your ideas in the comments.
