Pleasant Hill Education Center Pool Reopened After Heater Repair

The pool was closed during the month of April for City of Pleasant Hill aquatic programs.

Programs have resumed at the Pleasant Hill Education Center Pool on Santa Barbara Way after a damaged heater shut down city aquatics programs during the month of April.

The Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District has a joint agreement with the Mount Diablo Unified School District for use, operation and maintenance of the Education Center Pool, according to Aquatics Supervisor Korey Riley.

"The heater was down in April due to a leak in the heat exchanger," said Riley. "We initially requested a quote from a heater service company to replace the heat exchanger, which totaled over $20,000. Due to the small size of the leak, and the large expense in replacing the heat exchanger, we decided to repair the heat exchanger in house."

The cost for parts totaled approximately $3,500, says Riley, adding that it was "a significant savings over the replacement quote."

The MDUSD Pleasant Hill Middle School P.E. program continued to use the pool while the heater was being repaired, according to Riley. Repairs were completed May 3 and the pool was reopened for Pleasant Hill aquatics programs, including the Dolphins Swim Team, fitness classes and swim clinics.
