Pleasant Hill to Observe Memorial Day with Ceremony at Soldier's Monument

The City of Pleasant Hill is hosting a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27 at Soldier's Memorial Monument on the corner of Boyd Road and Contra Costa Blvd.

This year's event starts at 1 p.m. with the Color Guard Naval Sea Cadets opening the program followed by veterans' organizations' Color Bearers.

Ensign Zachary Dahlke, a Walnut Creek resident and member of the graduation class of 2013 from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, will deliver the Memorial Day Address. Zachary's sister, Annie, will sing the National Anthem.

Mayor Michael Harris will speak at the ceremony, along with other elected officials, including State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, State Senator Mark DeSaulnier, Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla and County Supervisors Karen Mitchoff and Candace Anderson.

A firing party will be provided by the Military History Preservation Group, according to the city, and recorded music will be played throughout the program.

Refreshments will be served following the service, which is open to the public. Parking is available at the Downtown Parking Garage and the Terraces office building, both across the street from the Soldier's Memorial Monument.
